Helene Benson Receives Degree
Helene Benson has received a Master of Theological Studies degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. She is director of religious education at St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the PAK Delta Chapter. Our sincere congratulations to Helene. We are all so proud of our sister!

Pi Alpha Kappa Member Dies
Kalar Coody Fultz died at her home Thursday, May 10, 2012. She was 98 years young.
Her late parents were Lewis Marion Coody and Rebecca Caroline Butts Coody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Kent Fultz; sisters, Annie Lee Ratliff, Mellgwin Garnett and Marianne Smith. Her brothers were Excell, Edwin, Melville and L. H. Coody.
Immediate survivors are one son, Lewis Kent Fultz (Linda) of Brandon and one daughter, Rebecca Brooks (Neil) of Vicksburg. Others include Alice Fultz; grandchildren, Michael Fultz (Aleasha), Bekki Hall (Peter), David Brooks and Erin Brooks; five great-grandsons, Rhett, Collin, Parker and Noah Brooks and John Williams; one great granddaughter, Kalar Dawn Hall; several nieces, nephews; and her faithful caregivers.
Kalar graduated in 1936 from Mississippi University for Women. She taught at Tchula, Oak Ridge and Culkin Academy before being promoted to the Central Office of Warren County Schools in 1943.
In 1967, she became assistant superintendent of education until retirement in 1978. Twice during this time, she served as interim superintendent, the first woman to hold this position, devoting 40 years to the education of Mississippi school children.
Kalar held many offices and received several outstanding achievement awards during her memberships in B&PW, Delta Kappa Gamma and Pi Alpha Kappa sorority.
She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible classes and served as an elder.
Kalar will be remembered for her devotion and service to her family, church and community.
Arrangements are being handled by riles Funeral Home with visitation at 10:00, Saturday (today), followed by services at 11a.m. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Jacob's Ladder at First Presbyterian Church.

Former Omega Chapter Member Dies
Ethel T. Kendrick died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. She was 69. Born in New Orleans, she was the daughter of the late Wiley G. Towne and Ethel Morrissey Towne. Mrs. Kendrick was a 1962 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy, later attending Hinds Community College and was a graduate of the Vicksburg School of Cosmetology. She served as a secretary of St. Francis Xavier Academy for 15 years. She was later employed with U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Human Resources Division. Mrs. Kendrick was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church, serving as a past president of the St. Paul Altar Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Katherine Towne.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Kendrick of Vicksburg; her daughter, Connie Kendricks Miller of Hattiesburg; her son, Jimmy Kendrick, Jr. (Ginny) of Brandon; four grandchildren, Katelyn Miller, Mary Claire Kendrick, Katherine Kendrick and Isabella Jeffers; and her sister Mittie Towne Warren (James) of Vicksburg.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Farrell, pastor, as celebrant. Visitation was at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 39105 and to the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society, P. O. Box 820171, Vicksburg, MS 39182.
Pallbearers were Syd Johnston, Jerome Curro, Riley Nelson, John Robert Price, Warren Guider and Jerrell Strawn.

End Of Year Pool Party

Wanted to remind everyone of the End of Year Party at Alices Hebler's house on Friday, May 11th, at 7:00 pm. Alice and I will furnish the meat (the club will pay for the meat), rolls, drinks and condiments for the party. Everyone please bring a dish of your choice and your own "bottle".
