Denver Delta ~ Betty Shea's husband, Dwight, is recovering from a colonoscopy operation. The Denver Delta sisters have been active in their chapter meetings. In February's meeting, they learned about the satellite imaging company GeoEye, Inc., which is located in neighboring Thornton, CO. The GeoEye-1 tracks the IKONOS satellite and captures hundreds of images to assist in such projects are tacking prated oil tanker and providing assistance in Storm-damaged areas such as the Gulf Coats, Thailand, and Indonesia. The Denver Deltas celebrated their Founder's Day at the Tea-House in Golden, CO.
Vicksburg Alpha ~ Gary Sessums, son of Lucille Sessums, was home in early March for the "Run Thru History." He lives and works in Virginia. Florence Amborn is still recovering from dancing the night away at the wedding of grandson Rom Amborn to Jordan Bell. Her granddaughter Casey also recently married Sam Creasay. Illma Williams has a good excuse for missing the PAK convention. Her son Alan will be marrying his sweetheart, Lillian Hall, In Hattiesburg that weekend. The ice and snow which hit northern Mississippi, western Arkansas, and southern Missouri in late January was beautiful to see, but not much fun to drive through, said Pam Gee. Pam went to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to visit her brother prior to his starting chemotherapy. (He is doing well, by the way!) She was home just a few days before heading to Atlanta for a visit with her son Scott and his family.
Vicksburg Beta ~ Georgia Turnage recently visited her sister in Melborne, Florida. In January, Bonny Bruce and her daughter Barbara Applebaum had a relaxing two-week vacation at the beach in St. Augustine, Florida. The highlights of their trip were dining at new restaurants, shopping on St. George Street, and attending the wedding of Bonny's grandson/Barbara's son Chad. Chad Applebaum and Angela Snyder were married at the Otis Castle in St. Augustine on January 17 and honeymooned in New York City. Mark and Kathryn Chaney recently enjoyed trips to Washington, D.C. representing Farm Bureau on one trip and NARFE (National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees) on another trip. Side benefits were visits with their grandson who is on the staff of Senator Blance Lincoln of Arkansas. They also had their first grandchild to be married this past year - Lacy Chaney married Ryan Lee and the couple is living happily in Openwood. Genny Horvath and her husband spend a week in March visiting her sister and brother-in-law in Sarasota plus her niece came over from Margate, Florida. They had a lovely visit together.
Vickburg Delta ~ Beth Haskin and her family are doing fin. Daughter, Mary Amanda, will finish her Master's Degree in Health in August from the "W". Son, Josh, is enjoying life in Starkville while at school. Husband Phillip is finally going to retire from the Corps in January 2010. Yeh! Larry and Tricia Copelin are going to Denver to see thier son, Jamie, and daughter-in-law, Michelle, for an Easter visit. Helene Benson is recovering well after gall bladder surgery. She is looking forward to a trip to Atlanta in April for nephew Andrew's First Communion. Helene is also staying busy with all of the spring activities at St. Michael's Church. Joan Morgan is delighted to have her husband, Hal, back home after spending a month in India. He was the Rotary Group Study Exchange Team Leader. A similar group from Chandigarh, India, will be visiting Mississippi in April, at which time one of its members will e our guest. Joan's grandchildren spent three days during their Spring Break and they enjoyed fishing, shopping, and swimming. Joan is looking forward to traveling to Virginia for her college reunion in April. Vicksburg Delta Chapter of PAK was saddened to learn of the death of our dear Sister, Merrilyn Anthony. she was such a cheerful and fun loving member of our chapter, always willing to volunteer her time and talents to help others, including our philanthropic causes. Her death will certainly leave a void in all PAK meetings.
Vicksburg Omega ~ In January, Myrtle Alvardo and her husband Bobby traveled to San Diego to visit his son and family - then on to see the Grand Canyon and back down to San Antonio and Austin, TX, before returning home. In February, Myrtle once again joined her sister Blanche for a trip to the spa in Ixtrapan Dela Sal, Mexico. Alice Hebler, owner of Paper Plus in downtown Vicksburg, was the Queen of our 8th Annual Mardi Gras Parade in February. She has also been elected on the Board of Directors for Small Businesses for the Chamber of Commerce. Congrats Alice. Alice is a new Avon Lady! Marian Phillips and her husband Bob wen on their first Hog Hunt on the edge of the MS Delta near Eden, MS, February 27, 28 and March 1. It was a pleasant surprise to hunt in the snow for a hog on Sunday morning. They saw 48 deer and one fat black hog that came running by their stand on Saturday afternoon. Marian could not get the hog in her scope and Bob shot at it running in and our of a tree/brush line but missed. All together the hunters harvested 6 hogs at the First Annual Hog Hunt at the famous Christmas Plantation and Hunting Club. Katherine Meyer Turcotte, Vera Marshall Brown, Marian Love Phillips, Ina Lott Whittington and Myrtle Loviza Alvarado will be celebrating their 50th Class Reunion on April 24 and 25th. They are looking forward to seeing all their classmates from Saint Francis Xavier Academy (now Southern Cultural Heritage Center) and St. Aloysius High School. Twenty girls from SFXA and nineteen boys from SAHS graduated. Three of of each class has passed on. The weather was so bad it was cancelled for Saturday so some of them at the contest went to one of the couple's home that lives near Dallas and spent the day. they had a wonderful time visiting with friends. Sunday was a beautiful day so the contest was help that day. Mike won a trophy. They always have a great time at the contest and have met so many friends. They went March 15 to another contest in Tucson, AZ for 10 days. This is another fun contest. People come from all over the world to this one and they will see friends that they've met through the years. Mike has also won a lot of trophies there. George and Vera Brown spent a recent weekend in Mandeville, LA. Their grandson Patrick Francis had one of the lead roles in "Oklahoma." He had several solo singing roles and did a wonderful job as well as the entire cast. That's in Maw and Paw-Paw's eyes anyway. Vera retired from River Region Health Systems on April 1, 2009. She has worked as an R.N. for 48 years in many capacities. A retirement party was held at Marian Hill CDU on April 2, 2009.
